Fans' Solidarity Boosts Foodbank; Kopites Put Rivalry to One Side to Help Less Fortunate

LIVERPOOL fans have been praised for making generous donations to the Newcastle West End Foodbank when they came to see their team play against Newcastle United.

The match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, was held at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon.

Before the game, supporters from Merseyside dropped off two shopping trolleys' worth of food and essentials.

Some fans also made cash gifts to the Newcastle charity, which offers support to people struggling with money. Liverpool FC supporters union Spirit of Shankly was among the groups appealing for their fans to lend their support to the Tyneside foodbank.

Before heading to the North East, they put a message on their website saying: "The Newcastle West End Foodbank is the largest in the country and, similar to what happens at Anfield and Goodison Park, they have set up a donation point at St James' Park on match days.

"It will be a great show of solidarity with the people of Newcastle if our members can make donations before the game on Sunday. …
