Stella World Truly Is a Thing of Wonder

TODAY'S column comes from backstage at the "Oh my God, my whole girl gang is here," screams Stella McCartney. I'm here too, behind the catwalk curtains, backstage at the Stella McCartney Paris fashion show inside the grand Opera Garnier and the room is thronged hazardously so. Kylie has taken shelter under a clothes rail to avoid getting knocked off her feet by hungry paparazzi who don't even realise she's there, she's that small.

Models strip down to their nude pants in full view of cameramen as they shove their lenses about the place hunting down the celebrity shot. How must these girls feel? Naked in front of hundreds of people? It's common practice at shows for models to change out in the open but in the light of Stella's comments about protecting the wellbeing of models ("We've always held the models at Stella in the highest regard; fashion needs to look after these young women"), I can't help but think that a screen for these girls to change behind introduced at every fashion show I might add might be an idea.

Stella's team buzz around de-shining her face with blotting paper, the merrygo-round is on the edge of chaos, and Stella, a vision in tan, brown flares and a camel sweater, is bathing in post-show flashbulbs, flinging her arms around an in-crowd coterie Natalia Vodianova, Charlotte Casiraghi, the girl band Haim, all part of the inner circle that is Stella World. Her aunt and uncle are here too, a glamorous elderly pair caught up in the hordes. "Meet my aunt and uncle, they are the coolest," she says, hugging Vogue editor Edward Enninful. "Oh, my God, it's you!" Singer Ellie Goulding arrives to pass on her congrats on the collection; a brilliant ode to wearable day-to-night staples such as exquisitely tailored double-breasted blazers, slinky jumpsuits and billowing dresses. Stella answers questions from journalists speaking into iPhones about the clothe. And how she's developed a cruelty-free leather everything is vegan here. …
