MR Neil Walker has just taken over as the new headmaster of Westfield School, an independent girls school in Gosforth.

He brings with him a quarter of a century's experience in teaching.

Neil comes from a strong scientific background and for the past 18 years has worked exclusively in girls' schools.

Westfield School has been producing highly successful young women since it was founded in 1960 and this year celebrated the achievement of 50% A* to B grades at A level. Every girl has gone on to achieve her first or second-choice destination for university or further education.

Life beyond Westfield - university or not? While many Westfield girls still continue to the top universities such as Oxbridge, Edinburgh, Queen Mary's, to study degrees as diverse as law, medicine and marine biology, our founding principle was to be an academic school with a broad curriculum to allow all talents to shine.

We are very proud of our girls who have achieved places at LAMDA and famous art colleges such as Central St Martins but university is no longer the only choice and we have supported our sixth-formers to gain modern apprenticeships for firms such as PWC.

Not just about academic results, what more can Westfield provide a girl? As a school with a global outlook, current affairs and world events are a regular topic of conversation in classrooms.

Our membership of Round Square means there are many opportunities to attend international conferences for exchanges with students from around the world or to volunteer with students from many different cultures with charity work.

Girls learn to think creatively, to recognise each other's strengths and talents and inspire each other to work together.

The school offers a high standard of academic education while at the same time giving each girl a sense of individual worth whatever her gifts. …
