Gabon Boss Stops Boycott as Players Protest over Ndong Call-Up

Didier Ndong REPORTS in Gabon claim the national team's general manager had to step in to stop a player boycott over the selection of Sunderland's Didier Ndong for this week's World Cup qualifier in Morocco.

Coach Jose Antonio Camacho called the midfielder up for the double-header against Ivory Coast during the last international break, but he flew home after the captaincy was handed to Cardiff City's Bruno Ecuele Manga after the intervention of Gabon's sports minister.

Some players were said to be threatening not to take part in this week's game in protest at Ndong's selection.

It is not the first time Ndong has had issues with his national team. Last November he was sent home from international duty after missing training without permission to visit his newborn child.

Newspaper l'Union says he is viewed by some players and officials as a "problem player", and his attitude is said to be seen as "disrespectful and casual" by some. …
