Sarina Beach Surf Life Saving Club's Dave Young has been recognised at the 2017 Surf Life Saving Queensland State Trainer of the Year for his work across the region delivering training to junior surf life savers.

SURF LIFE SAVING: A trainer at a local surf life saving club has been recognised as the best in the state at what he does.

Yet while the recognition for David Young was appreciated, for the man himself nothing beats seeing the kids he trains use their skills to save a life.

Young, a life member of the club, took out the 2017 Surf Life Saving Queensland State Trainer of the Year award and in turn picked up a nomination for the national award.

The recognition has been a long time coming with Young first joining the Sarina Surf Life Saving Club 11 years ago when his daughter was in nippers.

His daughter has since grown up and moved on from the club but he has stayed earning life membership at the club in the process. …
