JOSH Maja is back training with Sunderland's first team after missing the first few months of the season with injury.

The young striker impressed during pre-season before suffering a knee injury, but manager Simon Grayson has confirmed he is closing in on a return to action.

And in more good news for Sunderland fans, Grayson also had a positive update on Lewis Grabban's recovery.

The on-loan Bournemouth forward picked up a hamstring injury against Nottingham Forest last month, and has not been seen in a red-and-white shirt since.

"Lewis is working well with the physios," Grayson told safc.com "It's a procedure we're going through. We don't rush any player back so we have them for the long, not the short-term.

"But he's making good progress and I'm sure he'll be back in a red-and-white shirt very soon."

Sunderland have struggled for goals this season, and youngster Maja had looked in top form during the Black Cats' pre-season campaign. …
