Cudgen Settles for Draw in the Wet; Teams Share the Points

CUDGEN was forced to settle for a draw with only one wicket left to take against Tintenbar-East Ballina in Far North Coast LJ Hooker League cricket at the weekend.

All games went ahead but were eventually washed out with most teams sharing first round points.

A win looked certain for Cudgen before rain set in just before 4.30pm with no further play at Kingsford Smith Park, Ballina.

It was always going to be a tough run chase for the home side chasing 289 but they were determined to make a game of it with openers Abe Crawford and Luke Hamilton putting on a 95-run partnership.

Crawford (69) was always going to be the key once Hamilton was dismissed for 48 and his wicket proved crucial before the first rain delay at 3pm.

Cudgen hit their straps in the next hour with left-arm spinner Anthony Kershler finishing with a four wicket haul while fast bowler Tim Spencer bowled a tight spell and was rewarded with two wickets. …
