A SERVICE that helps people on Teesside has been left devastated after raiders trashed its new HQ.

Wanting a presence in Redcar town centre, Citizens Advice Redcar and Cleveland snapped up the former CJ Carpets shop at 17 Queen Street for PS90,000.

The service, currently based at Grangetown Neighbourhood Centre, intends to use the new building to extend its services and opening times.

But now they face delays and hefty costs after intruders broke in and wrecked the place.

Chief officer Helen Howson said that when she went in with builders to see what refurbishment work was needed, she was met with a scene of devastation, including a flooded cellar and floorboards ripped up.

She said: "I went in on Monday and I heard water that sounded like a waterfall.

"They'd cut through various pipes and we think they left a tap on in the kitchen area on the ground floor. We've had to have the cellar pumped out. …
