US Ready to Launch B-52 Nuke Attack; Air Force Prepares Bombers to Strike

THE US is preparing to put nuclear bombers back on 24-hour alert for the first time since the end of the Cold War, according to reports.

B-52 aircraft soon could be permanently laden with nuclear weapons and parked next to the runways on air bases, waiting for the order to attack, it has been claimed.

The shocking revelation - which would mark the first time since 1991 that such an alert level was reached - came on the Defense One website.

It is understood the decision has not yet been made, but the high command is preparing for the eventuality that the order will come.

US Air Force chief of staff General David Goldfein told the website: "This is yet one more step in ensuring that we're prepared."

He said the move was simply part of planning for "the global situation we find ourselves in".

Tensions between the US and North Korea have looked like reaching boiling point lately as Kim Jong-un pushes on with his nuclear program and threatens the world over United Nations sanctions against his country. …
