THE victim of a brutal knife attack left on the brink of death with a wound to the heart says he has "chosen to forgive" his assailants.

He was first punched and kicked on the ground by Lennon Forth, then 16, before Daniel Low, 33, arrived in a taxi and assaulted him with a large kitchen knife.

Low stabbed him to the side and back, puncturing his heart, and stabbed or "sawed" his left arm on Meath Street, Ayresome, Middlesbrough, on Christmas Eve, 2015. After the gravely injured man's life was saved at James Cook University Hospital, he made a personal statement, read out at Teesside Crown Court yesterday.

He said he still suffered flashbacks from which he awoke panicking that he was being attacked again, and vivid memories of being repeatedly stabbed.

For a time, he slept with a knife and a sledgehammer by his bed, had thoughts about self-harm and panicked when he saw his partner chopping vegetables in the kitchen.

Friends now had to tell him before they came to his home to avoid the stress of an unexpected call. …
