IN RECENT times a growing frustration appears to have emerged with the status quo in some pockets of the modern world.

We only have to look at what happened with Brexit and in the US to see how this disillusionment has played out (interestingly these results were not picked up in the polls).

I believe regional Queensland is no different to the US and Britain in that there's a frustration here bubbling below the surface.

As big cities prosper, regions hurt.

Politicians, in general, have become masters at muddying the political waters, deflecting to the peripheral issues and towing a party line.

It's executed very professionally.

Just how scripted the political world has become I think was aptly demonstrated here in Rockhampton this past week.

If Margaret Strelow had been selected by Labor for Rockhampton, would she have adopted the open approach that we have seen?

Unshackled, we are getting a far more engaging message. …
