FIRST DOWN

GREEN PLAYING = GOOD NEWS

The response from Jaguars fans was swift and nearly universal late Monday afternoon when the NFL announced that Cincinnati receiver A.J. Green would not be suspended for his fight with Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Fans wanted significant discipline for how Green went after their player.

But think about: The league may be doing the Jaguars a favor.

The Bengals play at Tennessee on Sunday. The Titans and Jaguars are both 5-3 and atop the AFC South. The Jaguars want the Titans' opponents at full strength. And after letting his team down against the Jaguars, Green should be bowed up to have a good game.

Coach Doug Marrone didn't bite before practice Wednesday.

"I don't get into that at all," Marrone said. "I focus on our team, I really do, and our players. I don't really focus on the other [teams'] players and what's going on. During the week, we'll focus on what we have to do to win. After the game, I'm already on to the next game."

FAVORED STATUS

The Jaguars are a four-point favorite over the Chargers - the fourth consecutive game the Jaguars have been favored.

This is rare territory.

According to Bovada.lv, the Jaguars' four-game streak as a favorite is their longest in 11 years.

In November-December 2006, the Jaguars were favored against Houston by 10 points (lost 13-10), against Tom Coughlin's New York Giants by four points (won 26-10), at Buffalo by three points (lost 27-24) and at Miami by one point (won 24-10).

The Jaguars were 6-1 straight-up as a favorite in 2007, their last playoff year. From 2008-16, they were favored 29 out of 144 games (12-17 record straight-up).

This year, the Jaguars are 2-2 straight-up as a favorite, defeating Cincinnati and Indianapolis and losing to the Jets and Rams. …
