Byline: Clayton Freeman

Saturday, at Apalachee Regional Park, Tallahassee

Schedule: Girls 9:35 a.m., boys 10:25 a.m.

Boys individual qualifiers: Evan Fuller, Andrew Miller (both Fleming Island).

Outlook: It's been 17 years since the First Coast has been shut out of a 4A state final on the girls side. In the boys race, though, the Fleming Island duo has the speed to finish strongly. Miller only placed ninth at regionals but has a 15:47 time this year; if he can repeat or even better that time Saturday, he's got a shot at a top-five finish.

Schedule: Girls 9:10 a.m., boys 10 a.m.

Boys team qualifiers: Bartram Trail, Creekside, Ponte Vedra. Boys individual qualifiers: Sebastian Kenne, Sam Skiles (both Stanton); Parker Woodruff, St. Augustine.

Girls team qualifiers: Creekside, Nease, Ponte Vedra. Girls individual qualifiers: Alivia Davis, Stanton.

Outlook: It's difficult. All three St. Johns County boys squads have a chance at the top five, but the top times belong to Tallahassee Chiles, Belen Jesuit and Vanguard. Still, Creekside's Matt Ortiz could fight for a top-10 finish, as could Stanton's Kenne and Skiles. In the girls race, Chiles and senior Ana Wallace are the favorites for the overall title, but Creekside should be the Timberwolves' main threat. Claire Openshaw leads an extremely young Knights squad that's likely to earn a podium spot. Watch also for Nease and Ponte Vedra, who could place in the top five.

Schedule: Girls 7:55 a.m., boys 8:45 a.m.

Boys team qualifiers: Bishop Kenny, Bolles, Episcopal. Boys individual qualifiers: John Sorensen, Fernandina Beach; Tim Choe, Micah Hilliard (both Suwannee).

Girls team qualifiers: Bishop Kenny, Bolles, Episcopal.

Outlook: Bolles hasn't won a boys team title in cross country since capturing three straight from 1983 to 1985, but after last year's runner-up finish, that might be about to change. The boys team contest looks like a straight showdown between the Bulldogs and Winter Park Trinity Prep, with Lake Wales and Bishop Kenny also in contention for the podium. …
