THIS is the woman accused of seriously injuring two children when a car crashed into a crowd of people in Newcastle's West End.

Marianne Kabah is alleged to have been behind the wheel of a Nissan Juke when it careered towards families who had been celebrating Eid outside Westgate College on Westgate Road back in June.

A court was told the car hit seven people and left two of them with "lifechanging, serious injuries".

Kabah, 42, of Meadow Lane, Gateshead, was in the dock on Wednesday to face two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

During the brief hearing at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court, she spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and address and to tell a district judge she was withholding her pleas to both charges.

Sue Baker, prosecuting, said that, because of the alleged serious injuries caused, the matter should be sent to the crown court.

She added: "This case not suitable for this court's jurisdiction. …
