Article excerpt

Game day

Saturday's pennants games between Ipswich and Fassifern at Boonah.

Under 14, 18 and Senior 2 playing at 9am.

Senior 1 and Veterans matches scheduled to start at 1pm.

VIGORO: Having played in the Boonah area for a number of years, Clare Gillett knows how competitive the Fassifern sides are.

"It's a country area. They have great athletes out there, they are very committed,'' she said.

"They'll definitely take it to us on Saturday.''

However, the Ipswich Senior 1 captain is confident her representative team will provide a stern challenge in the latest pennants clash at Boonah.

Weather permitting, Ipswich's Senior 1 team will play Fassifern's top side, along with battles between the respective association's Under 18, Under 14, Senior 2 and Veterans combinations.

Having captained Ipswich in recent seasons, Gillett knows the quality of players in her well-balanced side.

They include accomplished regulars like vice-captain and premiership-winning skipper Karen Devin, her sister Deanne Lawrie, Melinda Park and sisters Andrea Kruger and Rachel Savage.

"All those girls, there's a lot of experience and very level heads,'' Gillett said.

She also welcomed newcomers like in-form bowlers Janine Okonomou and Gabby Weller.

"I'm sure they will bring new qualities to the team,'' Gillett said. "They are a couple of good assets to have.''

Gillett is happy to be leading the Senior 1 team chosen. "I feel very confident going into the game with those girls,'' she said.

"I've got a lot of belief and faith in what they can all bring. I think they are one of the most reliable groups as well.''

The matches scheduled for Saturday will be played on Boonah's synthetic pitches.

Gillett is also confident Ipswich's under 14 and under 18 sides are getting better each year. …
