IF optimism were votes Kawana independent candidate Mike Jessop could be packing his bags for a George Street and a seat in whatever Parliament that emerges from the state election ballot on Saturday.

His election campaign was built around a call to lift compliance burdens on small business, which Mr Jessop said were crippling, added to unemployment and was killing industry.

The solution, he says, is in to what were radical though simple changes to way the government does business.

Key among these would be the removal of most taxes in favour of 0.5% transaction tax which could be collected directly through the banks, removing the need to pay a myriad of fees and reducing business costs.

Mr Jessop also advocates the removal of all bank notes except the $5 notes saying it that denomination it would stop the exchange of suit loads of cash that drove illegal and corrupt activity.

He says his election on Saturday would signal the beginning of Year Zero for the tax system and the ultimate revival of the national economy. …
