SUNSHINE Coast Lightning patron and Deputy Premier Jackie Trad has announced a guaranteed $7 million boost to redevelop Lightning HQ.

Ms Trad confirmed the funding, which she said was locked in unless the LNP won government and reversed the decision.

The cash splash will help redevelop the University of the Sunshine Coast Stadium.

Following the success of the Lightning's inaugural Suncorp Super Netball season, in which it won the grand final, the stadium upgrade will help bolster its growing fan base.

After all five home games last season sold out in rapid time the redevelopment will deliver an extra 1300 seats to the stadium, raising the capacity from 2200 to 3500.

"This investment will see the Lightning's home base at the University of the Sunshine Coast transform into an even more formidable fortress," Ms Trad said.

University of the Sunshine Coast vice-chancellor Professor Greg Hill said it would provide a bigger "multi-purpose" stadium which would play host to a variety of sport and cultural events. …
