NEW Year's Eve will reach a spectacular climax once again with a midnight fireworks display over the River Tyne.

It's a fitting welcome for 2018, a year which brings with it the Great Exhibition of the North - an event promising an action-packed summer.

The New Year's Eve free fireworks display is back by popular demand with an estimated 10,000 people having braved the cold to see 2017 ushered in last year.

Again the event is being produced by NewcastleGateshead Initiative (NGI) in partnership with NE1 Ltd, the business improvement district company.

Those in position on Newcastle Quayside or on the Gateshead side of the river at the stroke of midnight on Sunday, December 31 will see once again that the Tyne bridges make a stunning backdrop for a fireworks display.

The event is unticketed and comes a few hours after the familyfriendly event, East of the Sun, West of the Moon, which this year replaces the parade through Newcastle city centre culminating in fireworks outside the Civic Centre. …
