WHO would form the next Queensland Government may be known by the end of this week but it may be well into the second week of December before the outcome in several seats were known.

Labor remained the only party capable of forming government in its own right and was likely to do so by as soon as Friday as counting continued to favour it in Burdekin and Townsville.

Also certain was that independent Sandy Bolton (Noosa) and the LNP's Marty Hunt (Nicklin), Dan Purdie (Ninderry), Fiona Simpson (Maroochydore), Brent Mickelberg (Buderim), Jarrod Bleijie (Kawana), Mark McArdle (Caloundra) and Andrew Powell (Glass House) would all claim seats in the new parliament which would sit until the next state election in October, 2020.

As clear as those outcomes may be, Electoral Commission Queensland said in electorates where the race was tight, it may not be possible to declare a winner until after the return of postal votes. …
