Raising the Benchmark; Duo Shock Themselves with Victory

POWERLIGHTING: Bundaberg's Hayley Wilkinson loves taking on a challenge head on.

The 35-year-old crossfit runner had just completed the Bridge to Brisbane when she heard about the 3 Lift novice event being held at The Foundry.

Switching her runners to weights on the advice of her partner, Josh, she trained for three months to get bulked up and add weight for the event.

Now, she is a champion after taking out the event last Saturday against other competitors.

In her first ever powerlift competition she lifted a total of 250kg in the three disciplines of squad, bench and deadlift to win.

"I was in complete shock - I was not expected to win at all," Wilkinson said.

"I did a personal best in my deadlift and tied my record in the squat and bench.

"I was there for a bit of fun, so to win was a bonus."

Wilkinson credited the win to her partner and said she now intended to go back to crossfit competition for an event in January. …
