THERE is a tremendous sense of community within the Grainger Market but at Christmas this community extends its reach beyond the market to offer help and support to homeless charity, Crisis and its work in Newcastle.

This year will be the eighth year running that the traders have banded together to offer the charity food, supplies and support at Christmas, their busiest time of year.

The charity expects to serve more than 700 people on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and will provide three meals a day on both days.

To help Crisis provide this Christmas lifeline - the Grainger Market Traders Association is collecting much needed supplies from the many and varied traders in the market.

Turkey, bacon and sausages, fruit and vegetables will be donated by a number of the stall holders with cakes and Christmas goodies from other businesses in the market.

Newcastle City Council is supporting the charitable efforts by donating a free unit at the market to store the donations including blankets, warm clothes and gifts for the homeless that are all being provided by businesses and members of the public. …
