AMERICAN can rule for in-form trainer Harry Fry in the star-studded Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury.

The Dorset handler has always thought the world of this classy but fragile seven-year-old who TURN TO PAGE TWO FROM PAGE ONE first caught the eye when landing a red hot Ascot novice hurdle back in November 2015.

Grade 2-level proved too much at Punchestown but the gelding showed he would be much better over fences when bolting up on his chasing bow at Exeter a year ago.

Pitched into Listed company at Warwick, AMERICAN (3.00) jumped and galloped the smart Champers On Ice into oblivion and earned some fancy quotes for the RSA at the Festival.

"It's a big ask coming to a race like this first time out but that's why he's been to Wincanton and Newbury for racecourse gallops.

"We are happy with where he is and when he's right, he's very good."

POPPY KAY (2.25) can bloom for the Hobbs-Johnson axis in another trappy renewal of the Gerry Feilden. …
