Politologue Gives Paul 10th Feature Race Victory

Article excerpt

PAUL Nicholls continued his incredible record in the Betfair Tingle Creek Chase when Politologue gave him his 10th success in the Sandown feature since his first in 1999.

The Ditcheat handler has won the two-mile event with such champions as Kauto Star and Master Minded.

And while Politologue (7-2) has yet to emulate those two, he showed he has made giant strides by overturning hot favourite Fox Norton to give young jockey Harry Cobden his second Grade One triumph.

"He is starting to look the proper job. I knew when he went to Exeter (Haldon Gold Cup) there would be huge improvement," said Nicholls.

"I knew they would go quick and his jumping stands him in great stead. Harry said he just cruises there and ends up idling in front. The faster they go, the more he can get a tow into the race.

"I suspect we will go to Ascot (for the Clarence House Chase) now at the end of January, then on to Cheltenham."

Sceau Royal (11-1) sprang a bit of a surprise in an eagerly-awaited renewal of the randoxhealth.com Henry VIII Novices' Chase.

Brain Power and Finian's Oscar dominated the betting in a five-horse affair, but the former came down at the last when Sceau Royal threatened, while Finian's Oscar was a distant third.

The Alan King-trained Sceau Royal was a worthy winner under Daryl Jacob as he took his revenge on North Hill Harvey, who had beaten him at Cheltenham in October when conceding 5lb.

King said: "He looked awfully good today. He was in great form coming here, I'd always said to Daryl (Jacob) he's probably 6lb or 7lb shy of the very top, but fences look to have pulled that out of him.

"I will speak to Anthony (Bromley, owner's racing manager) but I wouldn't mind if he went straight to the Arkle. We will see. There might be one run or something, but we will leave him alone a bit for now."

Blaklion strengthened his claims for the Randox Health Grand National with an authoritative display to win the same sponsors' Becher Chase at Aintree. …
