'OUR thoughts and prayers are with you Leo.'.

That's Boro's message to excoach Leo Percovich after a horror crash in Brazil claimed his daughter's life.

The Uruguayan fan favourite's other two children are fighting for their lives.

A post on Middlesbrough FC's Facebook page states: "We woke to some tragic news from Brazil where our former goalkeeping coach Leo Percovich has been involved in a car accident which has claimed the life of one of his children.

"A statement on the Fluminense website confirmed the news, adding that Leo suffered slight injuries in the accident, while his wife has suffered a fractured pelvis and his other two children are in a critical condition in hospital.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Leo."

The charismatic goalkeeping coach won the hearts of fans after following Aitor Karanka to the Riverside back in 2013.

He has since become Brazilian club Fluminense's under-20s coach, and was driving in the Santos Dumont region of Zona da Mata with his wife and three children when the tragedy struck.

A statement on the Fluminense website states: "Fluminense confirms that the coach of the club's under-20 team, Leo Percovich, 49, was in the car accident on Saturday in the Santos Dumont region of Zona da Mata.

"Leo Percovich and his wife were rescued and taken to UPA Norte, in Juiz de Fora.

"The coach suffered slight injuries and will undergo examinations throughout the night. The trainer's wife suffered a fractured pelvis.

"Of the couple's children, a boy and a girl are in the CTI of Santa Casa de Juiz de Fora in critical condition and the other daughter of the couple died."

Just days before Christmas, Boro fans say the tragedy reinforces how Bill Shankly's famous quote, about football being more serious than life and death, is simply rubbish.
