RUGBY LEAGUE: Before heading into their Christmas break, the Mackay Cutters sweated it out at a two-day bootcamp as the club continued its process of selecting a leadership group for 2018.

After strict fitness targets were set by coach Steve Sheppard to have all players in peak fitness upon return post holidays, players and officials broke into two groups for a series of challenges at the camp, at Shambahla Creek Cottage, Mt Charlton, at the weekend.

The Cutters started their camp with a physical and mental challenge where they were tethered together with ropes before completing an obstacle course.

With the potential for leaders emerging, Sheppard was casting an eye over the groups to avoid a repeat of a mid-season captaincy shuffle.

"We had a look there (at bootcamp) and we'll have a look early in the new year before we make a decision (on leadership). We won't rush into that," Sheppard said. …
