GATESHEAD'S Ray Humphreys (off 35) came through a 17-strong field in Whitley Bay Snooker Centre's latest one-day handicapped pro-am to claim a convincing 3-0 win over Tim Taylor.

Humphrey triumphed 72-51, 60-49, 61-52.

In his semi-final against Wallsend's Gary Wilson, Humphrey had received a 70-point start.

He managed to scrape through by the closest of margins after taking the re-spotted black in the decider to prevail 3-2. Taylor had a similar battle in his last-four clash against Whitley's John Wear before winning 3-2. There were two century runs for the highest break of the day award, both to Wilson - a 125 in round one and a 128 in round two.

The all-Whitley final of the plate competition was won by Gerry McNally, who clinched a 2-0 victory over Dale Allan. | WALLSEND potter Elliott Slessor produced another series of outstanding frames at Glasgow's Dafabet Scottish Open - only going out in the last 16 4-3 to World No 3 Judd Trump. …
