Hot Weather Keeps Anglers Happy during the Holidays

Article excerpt

COOBY DAM

COOBY has been keeping most anglers happy over Christmas with plenty of nice-sized yellowbelly picked up in the mornings.

Fishing close to the edges on the northern banks of the lake has been the most popular. Trolling shallow diving lures and jackall tn60s in around 10ft of water has had good success on the yellowbelly and some small cod around the 55cm mark.

There are still fish out in the deep and saltwater yabbies and zx blades have had their fair share of success also out from the Reflections boat ramp and around the buoy line.

COOLMUNDA DAM

THE warm and stormy weather has really brought the yellowbelly on at Coolmunda with good schools sitting just out from the boat ramp on the flats in around 25 foot of water.

Jigging or hopping blades and soft vibes have worked really well along with live shrimp and salt water yabbies.

The odd big cod has been landed in the old creek bed trolling large deep diving lures.

Keep an eye on this lake as I think the cod fishing will be really good once the barometric pressure lifts up.

BJELKE PETERSEN DAM

BP like most of the bass lakes around is fishing really well, locating the schools of bass on the flats and out from some main lake points in around 25-30 ft of water.

Anglers are mainly using spoons, tailspinners and soft plastics, basically anything that sinks and you can keep it down in the fish face.

The schools of bass are spread out all over the lake at BP and are relatively easy to locate unlike some bass lakes where they are small schools in specific locations.

MOOGERAH DAM

AGAIN another bass lake that is doing great but Moogerah has the small problem over the holidays with the masses of people and skiers.

It makes the fishing a little more difficult just like Somerset although the weekday fishing has been really good with good schools out from the spit boat ramp and other main lake points.

There is also a good reaction bite in the timbered areas trolling diving lures and jackalls has worked great while the schooled fish have been loving the spoons.

CONDAMINE RIVER

PLENTY of good fishing to be had close by at the moment with the Condamine clearing right up in some places. …
