Fascinating battle

The Col Byers trained Little Ach Cee is one of the more interesting runners at today's twilight meeting at the Ipswich Showgrounds.

The son of Turanza Bale and Ritza Night turns four years of age next month. That's an age where most greyhounds lose a bit of form.

Rather like a 35 years old footballer or a 40 years old cricketer. But you do get exceptions of course.

Little Ach Cee has won his past two starts and is a big chance of completing the hat-trick today.

He won from box four in 25.28 10 days ago over 431 metres before backing up for a box two win last Saturday in 24.99. The dog has box seven in race eight today.

The meeting commences at 2.48pm.

THE formalisation of the merger between gambling companies Tabcorp and Tattersalls went through last Friday.

Tabcorp has been trading as TAB and Tattersalls as UBET and that won't change in the immediate future.

In fact, to the punter, there probably won't be any changes of note straight away.

A couple of years ago Tatts made a significant investment in changing its brand name from Unitab to Ubet.

It's likely that the Ubet name will be around for about another 12 months and the combined entity will then become simply "TAB.''

Brand names can be confusing.

There's an outfit called Unibet and I'm sure a lot of people think that is the same as Ubet.

Many punters are asking the question -- when will there be a national TAB pool for racing of the three codes?

The answer is -- not in the immediate future.

The CEO and managing director of Tabcorp is Melbourne based David Attenborough, not to be confused with the high profile 91 years old documentary maker and presenter of the same name.

Attenborough says the creation of a national TAB pool is a mission but it's not a straightforward matter. …
