A SPECIAL service has been held to honour a former Northumbria Police officer who was killed in the line of duty in Canada.

John Davidson was shot while he tried to arrest a suspect in Abbotsford, British Columbia, in November.

The 53-year-old dad-of-three was responding to reports of a possible stolen vehicle and shots being fired at members of the public in the car park of a shopping mall.

There was an exchange of gunfire and Constable Davidson was killed. He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The policeman worked for Northumbria Police from 1993 to 2005 before moving to Canada with his wife and children. He started working for Abbotsford Police Department in March 2006. A service was held in his honour on Tyneside and his family travelled to attend the event.

During the short service, PC Davidson's wife Denise, his children Drew, Dina and Fay, together with other family members, were joined by ex-colleagues and friends. …
