THE first Newcastle Restaurant Week of the year is almost upon us, with special deals around the city from January 15-21.

There will be another one coming our way in the summer. Find online details of this one at www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/restaurant-week But that's not all. The North East, with its fast developing reputation for fine and diverse food and drink, is also a place that likes to put on an event.

The 2018 calendar is already filling up fast with festivals, markets and restaurant deals.

Here are just some of the red letter foodie events already confirmed for the coming months. Others, surely, are set to follow.

Dine InDurham TAKING place over the weekend of January 18-21, you'll find meal deals for PS5, PS10 and PS15 at various independent and chain restaurants across the city.

www.durhambid.co.uk/events/dine-indurham-january-2 Jesmond Food Market THE next event, with North East food producers setting out their stalls on Armstrong Bridge, over Jesmond Dene, is on Saturday, January 20, from 10am to 3pm.

It will then take place on the third Saturday of each month.

Follow on Twitter @JESFOODMKT The Great Durham Pudding Club THIS, at 6.30pm on Thursday, February 8, is the first in a series of quarterly dining experiences at the Undercroft Restaurant, Durham Cathedral.

The promise is a classy main course followed by a selection of six puddings including John Thacker sticky plum pudding, Chocolate brioche bread and butter pudding and Pocket rocket baked apple caramel and suet pudding. All for PS25 a head with a glass of red or white wine.

Stalls, talks, demonstrations and lots of hot and cold food are promised.

The NEVFest, as it is affectionately known, will return on May 5 and then again on November 3, both at Gateshead International Stadium.

www.northeastveganfestival.com Sunderland Restaurant Week RESTAURANTS and cafes around the city will be offering special deals throughout the week of March 17-25.

www.sunderlandbid.co.uk/restaurant-week Prosecco & Gin Festival TAKING place at Newcastle Civic Centre on April 6 and 7, the event will feature more than 40 gins and a cocktail bar where, for one thing, you'll be shown how the two drinks - gin and Prosecco - can be blended to delightful effect.
