Leadbitter Has Long-Term Deal at Riverside

MIDDLESBROUGH have revealed captain Grant Leadbitter still has a long-term deal at the Riverside - putting talk of a potential January exit to bed.

The 32-year-old was thought to be entering the final six months of his contract, which could have encouraged Championship sides to try to secure the skipper on a cut-price deal this month.

Nottingham Forest have already been linked with the skipper, who has spent six years at the Riverside and has started every game under new boss Tony Pulis.

However, it has emerged that Leadbitter penned a new deal months ago, meaning he still has an extended spell left to run on his Teesside contract.

The revelations come as a blow to Forest boss Aitor Karanka, the former Boro chief who is understood to have identified Leadbitter as a top January target for his new club at the City Ground.

But after allowing Adam Forshaw to seal a PS4.5m move to Leeds on Thursday, Boro are unlikely to consider selling their captain and midfield talisman this month. …
