BROTHERS have staked their claim as the in-form team of the Ipswich two-day competition with a monster first innings against Northsiders at Ivor Marsden Oval on Saturday.

Luke Dixon was the star with 125 runs, and was capably supported by Taylor Peach (65), Mick Ridgewell (54), and Jacob Sarra (49) as the hosts welcomed stumps at 9/387.

Norths spearhead Kev Cumming got the visitors off to the perfect start, when he caught and bowled Brothers opener Mark Sharrad for just five.

When the in-form duo of Ridgewell and Mitch Weatherhead (20) departed, Norths would have fancied their chances with the hosts sitting at 3/83.

Instead, Sarra and Dixon put on a massive 193-run fourth-wicket partnership to wrest control back in the hosts' favour.

"It's been a bit of a lean trot of late, so I was just happy to get some runs to be honest," Dixon said.

"Even though we lost three wickets early, it didn't feel like we were really in any trouble at all when I went out to bat. …
