CRYSTAL PALACE were today working on a deal to sign Jordan Hugill from Preston while they were also linked with a move for Alexander Sorloth from Danish side FC Midtjylland.

Palace's striker search intensified after Bakary Sako suffered an ankle injury at West Ham last night that Roy Hodgson fears could keep the forward out for a lengthy period.

Hodgson has made it clear Palace need to strengthen their frontline and it was reported in Denmark this morning Sorloth was flying to London ahead of a move to Selhurst Park.

Sorloth has scored 15 goals in the Danish Superliga this season and the 22-year-old has 12 caps for Norway.

Hugill is another option for Palace and he was left out of the Preston squad for their game at Nottingham Forest last night.

Preston are thought to want PS10million for the 25-year-old and do not want to lower their valuation because his former club Port Vale are due a 20 per cent sell-on fee.

Hodgson said last night his forward options are "down to the bare bones" after Sako limped off against West Ham. Sako hurt his ankle following a challenge by West Ham defender Pablo Zabaleta.

Hodgson said: "It makes it even clearer now that we would like to bring someone in because if Bakary goes as well then our forward options are down to the bare bones.

"It makes it a bit more imperative that we bring some more players in, because if we do not we are going to have a very small squad especially in the forward area."

Palace were also attempting to finalise a deal to sign Spanish goalkeeper Vicente Guaita from Getafe.

Guaita passed a medical at Selhurst Park last week but a deal had yet to be completed going into the final hours of the window. …
