Market Getting More Hours to Offer Its Wares; Green Light Given for Night-Time Events, Fairs and Music

NEWCASTLE'S Grainger Market is to keep its doors open for longer for special events and fairs across the year. After the success of the late-night Christmas market opening in December, the historic shopping destination now has permission to stay open until midnight on special occasions.

The Grade I-listed building, which first opened in 1835, will now be able to host live music and other performances and provide late-night refreshment.

Events could also be held on Sundays and bank holidays between 10am and 5pm.

The first confirmed event is a Late Shows one on Saturday, May 19. The Late Shows. These are free late-night culture crawls across Newcastle and Gateshead, offering workshops, tours and performances at different venues.

The event began in 2007 and has grown from 14 venues in the first year to more than 70.

A repeat of the Christmas shopping event has also been confirmed for December 1. …
