Chocolate Factory Finds Perfect Recipe for Staff

VISITING a chocolate factory is a childhood dream for many but one local woman looks forward to it every day.

Rhonda Hammond landed her sweet gig at Macaday Farm, local producers of chocolate coated macadamia bars, after new owners Emily and Bernie Wickham turned to STEPS Employment Solutions for support.

"We found STEPS by accident, but now we go to STEPS to find all our new employees," Emily said.

Before Rhonda joined the Macaday Farm team, Emily and Bernie juggled managing all the company's production and sales on their own.

"Trying to run the factory by ourselves was quite difficult, so Rhonda relieves a lot of the pressure and helps us all to focus on building our business," Emily said.

Rhonda's new job, which involves preparing the handmade rocky road, has played an important role in helping her to manage her disability and overcome its everyday challenges.

"Before I completed my training and had the support of STEPS to look for employment, I didn't want to even leave the house; now I feel happy because I have a reason to get up in the morning and go to work," she said. …
