Loan Ace Fletcher Is So Eager to Impress

ASHLEY Fletcher admits he will have to get his career "back on track" at Sunderland - but he is not blaming anyone for him losing his way.

The striker has moved on loan to the Stadium of Light until the end of the season and hopes it will kick-start rather than end his Middlesbrough career.

Fletcher enjoyed a hugely encouraging half-season on loan at Barnsley from Manchester United in 2016, leading the Tykes to Wembley victories in the Football League Trophy and League One play-offs.

While he was away from Old Trafford, the Red Devils faced a striker shortage which led to them turning to his friend Marcus Rashford, who propelled himself into England's European Championship team at the age of 18.

Fletcher's path took a different route, joining West Ham United last season, then making a PS6.5m move to the Riverside.

He made two league starts for the Hammers, three for Boro, but has no complaints.
