Neale Says Oriental Runner's a Big Hope

IF ORIENTAL Runner is as good as trainer Garry Neale thinks he should be hard to beat at Kembla Grange today.

The four-year-old lines up in a Benchmark 68 Handicap (1200m) and is shooting for three straight wins after victories at Moruya and Kembla Grange.

Neale said his lightly raced runner was in good shape for the assignment where he meets a field of nine rivals.

"I'm happy with him and he's a good horse. I've been training for more than 30 years now and I think he's the real deal," Neale said.

"He's taken off with a bang. He's a lovely horse and doing everything I asked him to do. He's got a great attitude and I think he might have what it takes."

Oriental Runner, formally owned by the China Horse Club, has to carry 3kg more than he did last start when he won by 31/2 lengths. A win today will see him head to town next start.

"He ran good time (1:09.91) last start (over 1200m) when there was a pretty strong head wind. He did it standing on his head," Neale said. …
