CUDGEN CLAIMS COUNTRY CROWN; Second Year in a Row Lifesaving Club Has Won Event

CUDGEN has emerged as the dominant club in the Far North Coast branch after its performance at the NSW Country Surf Lifesaving Championships at the weekend.

The club finished more than 400 points ahead of second-placed Sawtell, with Byron Bay back in third.

It is the second consecutive year Cudgen has won the event after Byron Bay had a stranglehold on it for the previous six years.

A virtual clean sweep of the iron and taplin races was backed up by solid performances by key competitors including Anthea Warne and Luke Chaffer.

In the ironwoman, Anthea Warne won the under-17 event, then backed up to get second in the open event. The under-14 race was won by Lily O'Sullivan.

Anthea also delivered a trifecta in the water with wins in the under-17 board, swim and ski races.

The open ironman was won by Luke Chaffer while Kai Onley, Josh Jones and Joseph Warne all won their age division. …
