After Christmas I splashed out on new workout gear and a diet book. I had great intentions to start the new year with a health kick, but I've been so busy with work and family that life has got in the way. But now that January has passed, I feel worse than I did at the start of the year. I know I need to make a change but I feel so demotivated by not managing it last time that I don't know how to start and stick to it. First of all, stop thinking of yourself as a failure. The trouble with new year resolutions is that people often set themselves unrealistic goals that don't take account of their lifestyle and then feel terrible when they don't succeed. What's positive is that you want to make healthy changes and every day is a new day, so you can start again. I've battled with my weight for years, but one of the things I've learnt is not to set myself a deadline or a goal that seems overwhelming, but to give myself lots of little, achievable goals - baby steps! …
