Punting tips from best sources

IF you are a punter, I reckon it's a good idea to back greyhounds prepared by an in-form trainer.

When a trainer is on a roll, you want to be with him or her, not betting against them.

Two trainers on particularly good rolls at present are Darren Russell and Steve Scott.

Scott has four runners in the Vince Curry heats. Russell has two.

Keep an eye on them would be good advice for tomorrow night.

Russell's brilliant shortcourse perfomer Go Lassie Go won at Casino last Friday, breaking the 411 metres record. She then backed up at Ipswich on Tuesday for another win.

Her 25.10 winning time for the 431 metres wasn't a record though.

Russell also won a maiden race on that Tuesday card with Wilby, a first starter by My Bro Fabio out of Dulcie Dee who ran a slick 24.93.

Russell has a litter brother to Wilby, named Yeah Okay, in heat one of the Vince Curry tomorrow night.

The trainer didn't think that Wilby would run out a strong 520 metres, which is the distance of the Vince Curry.

So keep an eye on Yeah Okay.

There are people who also believe that racecallers get plenty of reliable tips.

That I can assure you is partially true. Yes, we get plenty of tips but they are not necessarily reliable.

Often the tip is for more than one dog or horse in the same race. This is particu- larly so at this time every year when the heats of the Vince Curry Memorial Maiden are run at the Ipswich Showgrounds.

There are nine heats tomorrow night.

For about the last month I have received reports that greyhounds of certain trainers have been trialling in magnificent fashion at Ipswich in the lead up to the Vince Curry heats. …
