GET IN THE KNOW: Tips for Using Search Engines and Browsers

LET'S talk for a minute about search engines and web browsers.

You can look up how to do everything I'm about to talk about on the internet using a web browser's search engine.

Most people will use the transitive verb "Google" when referring to looking something up on the internet.

This simply means to use the Google web browser's search engine by typing in a short approximation of what you want to find.

Here's a true case example taken from advice given to my 75-year-old father: I may wish to "Google" or search for a solution to why my lawn mower revs and dies. To do this, I'll use a web browser computer program, then within that program I'll be able to type into a search engine.

Literally I'd simply type in, "why my lawn mower revs and dies," hit enter, then I'd see the results I can chose from.

You don't have to use just the Google search engine.

One could use Yahoo, Google, Bing, Duck Duck Go Search, etc. …
