Super Rugby Stars Align; Dust off Cobwebs for R1

RUGBY UNION: Gympie Hammers players won't need any more motivation after a gruelling pre-season.

They will have their chance tonight with a contingent of Wallabies and All Black superstars.

The ACT Brumbies and Waikato Chiefs will lock horns tonight in a game potentially featuring 25 internationals.

Hammers vice-president Paul Blackburn said it was great to have players of this calibre on our doorstep.

"There aren't a lot of chances to watch these players, so it should be a good night," Blackburn said.

"I know of a few people going down and I am looking forward to seeing some of the younger players in action."

The contest is the Brumbies' final hit-out before the Super Rugby season kicks off, and coach Dan McKellar is predicting it to be hotly contested.

"We've been training really well and we can continue to build our confidence," McKellar said.

"We have had a very good pre-season, and really pushed the boundaries. …
