DANNY Holmes has coached elite rugby league in some of the most hostile territory on earth and now he's eager to show off some of the globe's most idyllic scenery.

The Mount Coolum man has been unable to find work as a high performance rugby league coach and was looking for a venture that would enable him to enjoy his passion for camping.

The 63-year-old is an experienced camper who reckoned he could "light a fire out of anything".

"We spent a lot of time there on the beach and going through the bush," he said.

So the idea was borne to roll out ride sharing with a difference.

Mr Holmes is putting his trusty 1996 Holden Rodeo ute to good use, offering to take backpackers, travellers and others to Inskip Point, Double Island Point, Fraser Island and other places that they otherwise couldn't access.

He said the plan was to scoop them up and take them to their preferred site, where they could use his four-man tent and set up camp. …
