Football: The Western Pride women fell to their first defeat of the NPLW season on Monday night, losing 4-1 to Brisbane Roar NTC at the Briggs Road Sporting Complex.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Pride conceded three second-half goals - including an unfortunate own goal - before captain Sophie Weatherby hit the scoresheet late in the contest.

Following big wins over SWQ Thunder and Mudgeeraba to open the campaign, the Pride skipper said it was not so much a wake-up-call as acknowledging there will still be some growing pains for the Ipswich club this season.

"In the first two games we had time and space on the ball, and this game we didn't have that time," Weatherby said of Monday night's opponents.

"They were so quick, fit and fast. We know we'll struggle against the harder teams, but we've raised the bar this year. I think we're a much better team.

"Their goals were scrappy goals. I think next time we'll be a lot more competitive against them. …
