Riverside Units Approved; Councillor Holds Flood Fears for Building

A NEW multi-level residential block has been approved by Bundaberg Regional Council that will offer its tenants a beautiful view of the Burnett River.

But councillor Greg Barnes, who voted against the development, said he could not in "good faith" vote in favour of the proposal, which had the potential to go under water.

Marina Quay Developments is behind the proposal, which will see 12 three-bedroom units within a three-storey building along the Burnett River with a ground-floor car park.

The 1916sq m site is at the northern end of Targo St.

Cr Barnes said he had struggled with his decision for a week.

He said the footprint of the proposal was covered in floodwater in 2013 and the same could happen again.

"From a personal basis, I didn't want my name attached to it," he said.

"The report would suggest everything is OK.

"But if we get anything like we did last time this building will be inundated. …
