Name: Ben Tabulo

Company: SynBio -- Southern Oil

Position: General manager

How long have you been in your current position? I have been running SynBio (the Yarwan Advanced BioFuels Pilot Plant) for a little over two years now. SynBio is a subsidiary of Southern Oil where I have worked for seven years and have been lucky enough to undertake positions in design, operations and management.

How do you drink your coffee? On a cool day, flat white, no sugar, full cream milk. On a warm day, espresso shot topped with cold milk.

How do you manage those challenges? Communication and engagement. Our pilot plant involves partnerships between more than 10 companies, universities and government bodies, with more coming every day. We act as one, always remembering that we are setting up a new value chain, which needs providers, processors and customers. They are all as important as each other.

What are your business' goals? Like any business our key goal is to generate profit. …
