RUGBY LEAGUE: Things are settling down in the Magpies' nest as players and officials await the first hit-out of the 2018 season this weekend against Casino.

There will be three matches played against Casino at Yamba Sports Complex on Angourie Rd, with the Under 18s kicking off the matches at 2pm.

The visitors will also bring a squad of senior first grade players, and a ladies league tag side to give all of the Magpies a solid pre-season hit-out.

Last year Lower Clarence was inconvenienced by not having a trial match before the season proper. That was because of wet weather, so we hope the clouds have lifted for this weekend's action.

Committee meetings have been very constructive of late.

We were fortunate enough to strengthen our core committee group with the addition of some experienced men in Tim Ryan, who has taken on the job of secretary, and Aiden Daniels, as treasurer, as well as John Elisaia who filled the vacant vice president's position. …
