The Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens and First Coast Plein Air Painters are hosting, "A Brush with Nature," a juried painting event March 2425.

The event is returning after a oneyear absence, said Brush With Nature Event Committee Chair and Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens Board Member Patty Miller.

"The event was the brainchild of Mindy Hawkins, whose husband, Lad, was one of the founders of the Arboretum," Miller said "She approached the board about the idea and, with their blessing, put together a committee."

Miller added, "A plein painting event seemed like the perfect pairing of art and nature and a good way to encourage people to visit and learn about the Arboretum."

Guests who attend "A Brush with Nature," can explore the trails of the Arboretum and watch artists paint in nature.

Visitors can interact with the artists as they paint as well as visit the sales tent to view and purchase the paintings that were created during the event.

"The artist is rewarded for their hard work, the Arboretum receives a portion of the proceeds to further its mission and the buyer takes home a beautiful piece of art and a permanent memory of the time spent at the Arboretum," Miller said. "Purchasing a painting is a winwin."

In addition to the artists painting, there will be artist demonstrations, art on display and for sale, live music, children's activities and food trucks.

First Coast Plein Air Painters member Gail Beveridge said the event is designed to allow artists to paint their favorite scenes from locations throughout the 120acre site.

"The artwork is very affordable and offers a wide range of sizes and media, from watercolors, acrylics, oils, and pastels," Beveridge said. "It's a great event, giving art and garden lovers the opportunity to purchase an original painting and take home a lasting memory of the Arboretum, one that can be enjoyed for many years to come, that also helps the nonprofit venue fund needed maintenance and operation of the gardens."

Jacksonville resident Randy Pitts said "A Brush with Nature" marks his fifth time participating. …
