Police Identify Victim in Food Mart Shooting

The 33uyearuold man who died in a double shooting Sunday afternoon near a neighborhood grocery store on has been identified as Gregory Lamar Carodine of Piedmont Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Gunfire erupted about 2:30 p.m. while several people were outside and inside the Highlands Food Mart at 10368 Monaco Drive, the Sheriff's Office said. Carodine, wounded in the shooting, tried to flee in his car. But he crashed a few blocks away and died. Carodine lived less than a mile away from the shooting scene just north of Broward Road.

A woman also was grazed on the hand by a bullet, police said. Investigators believe there were multiple shooters at the scene after talking with witnesses, but it was unknown if it was a shootout between two groups or only one shooting at the other.

Palm Coast man charged

in exuwife's beating death

A 46uyearuold Palm Coast man is behind bars on a murder charge after his 44uyearuold exuwife was beaten to death Thursday, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

Michael Christopher Cummings was charged with secondudegree murder with a weapon Monday, after his original arrest Thursday on a charge of obstruction of justice following discovery of Faith Lorraine Cummings' body in their home on Point Pleasant Drive, the Sheriff's Office said.

Speaking to reporters Monday, Sheriff Rick Staly said Michael Cummings was living with his exuwife when he, "in an angry rage, brutally beats and stomps his exuwife to death, then realizes what he has done and tries to hide this crime."

"When our deputies arrived, it was obvious that the evidence did not match what Michael Cummings had stated to our 9u1u1 dispatcher and to our first deputies on the scene," Staly continued. "It was obvious the victim had been deceased for hours before we were called. …
