Probation after Dad Shook Baby Girl; 'Frustrated' Father Pleads Guilty

A FATHER who shook his two-month-old daughter in a fit of frustration in the early hours of the morning, causing a brain bleed and bursting an eye capillary, has been sentenced.

The man, 36, from Toowoomba, pleaded guilty to the single charge of assault occasioning bodily harm relating to the incident which occurred at a Toowoomba home on February 9 this year.

Toowoomba Magistrates Court was told the man, who is the biological father of the girl, was woken about 2am by his daughter's crying.

She had refused the dummy a number of times and, in a fit of frustration, he shook the girl causing her injuries.

The man rang 000 immediately after the incident and told emergency operators the baby was "breathing funny".

Paramedics arrived at the home when the baby began seizing.

She was taken to Toowoomba Hospital and given anti-epileptic medications and a CT scan which had shown no long-term effects of the shaking. …
